Chang-Sern Ee is a Singaporean graduated with a Chemical Engineering degree from National University of Singapore and completed his MBA with distinction from the University of Hull. Since then, he has worked over 20 years in the refining and petrochemical industry for Exxon Mobil, KBR and Royal Dutch Shell.
Chang Sern’s started his early career as a refinery process engineer and then moved into catalyst technical support, sales and technology licensing. In the latter part of his career with Shell, he progressed into joint venture management manufacturing, where he was appointed senior management roles such as the Shell board director and shareholder representative for various refinery and petrochemical plants located in China, Pakistan, Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia.
Chang Sern is currently seconded to a Shell/SABIC joint venture – SADAF (Saudi Petrochemical Company) in Saudi Arabia as the senior vice president. SADAF employs more than 900 staff in operating a 1.1 MM tonnes per year ethylene cracker that manufactures styrene, ethylene dichloride, MTBE and caustic products.
Chang Sern describes himself as passionate in delivering sustainable manufacturing excellence through building the right culture and developing people. He believes that both occupational and process safety are core values to which reliability and other manufacturing excellence can build on. Keeping ahead of the competition requires sweating the assets and applying cost leadership using LEAN approach to ensure sustainable performance. Subsequently investing in the right projects will bring in growth for the company.
