Mr. Mathew George is currently working as Chief Manager (Petrochemical Exports), heading the Export Function of Indian Oil’s Petrochemicals Business. Mathew joined IndianOil in 1986 with a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kerala, Trivandrum. He later went on to do a Post Graduate Diploma in Finance from XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur and a Post Graduate Diploma in Brand Management from UK’s Ashridge Business School, Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire. Mathew has also attended the Executive Development Program of the Kellogg School of Management, North Western University, Illinois, USA and the Certificate Course of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi. Mathew is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, India (FIE) and a Member of the Aeronautical Society of India (MAeSI).
Mr. George has held various key assignments in Indian Oil, having worked in the Aviation, Technical Services, Lubricants and Petrochemicals departments at various locations. He was a founding member of IndianOil’s subsidiary, Lanka IOC, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he set up and headed the Lubricants Group. Moving back to India in 2004 as part of the Core Team involved in setting up IndianOil’s fledgling Petrochemicals Business, he was instrumental in long-term cooperation agreements with Procter & Gamble and Unilever which took IndianOil’s Propel Brand Petrochemicals onto an international platform.
Mathew was the founding member of IndianOil’s Petrochemical Exports Group taking it from a humble one man team in 2005 to a Group with a presence in 70 countries on every inhabited continent in the world and earning over a Billion dollars in foreign exchange for India. For three years in between, from 2007 to 2010, Mathew headed the Polymer Sales Group, institutionalizing the newly commissioned, $ 2 Billion, Polymer Business. During this period he spearheaded the Core Team involved in development and implementation of the award winning, Customer Facing, CRM, Portal and Dealer Management platform for the Polymers Business of IOCL besides conceptualizing the Supply Chain, Business Processes and Risk Management systems for this large business. Mr. Mathew George was instrumental in setting up IndianOil’s business relationship with Pakistan, where he conceptualized an innovative supply chain using a combination of road and rail to move Polymers from IndianOil’s Panipat Refinery to Lahore, Pakistan in the face of tremendous obstacles. The Pakistan Business model of IndianOil remains a success story and is now a tried and tested example earning significant revenues and profits.
Mr. Mathew George is on various Governmental Advisory Boards/Sub-Committees of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Ministry of External Affairs – Pakistan Desk, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Surface Transport, Directorate General of Shipping, Directorate-General of Foreign Trade, Central Board of Excise and Customs and Bureau of Indian Standards where he contributes in Policy Formulation, Specifications and Standard Operating Procedures.
Mathew is a regular speaker at international and national conferences on the subject of Petroleum, Natural Gas, Petrochemicals, International Trade, Information Technology and Shipping & Logistics. He has presented 40 papers in International Conferences and around 45 in domestic conferences. For the last three years he has been a key-note speaker at Microsoft’s prestigious, annual, “Convergence” event in USA speaking on the subject of Customer Relationship Management using IT. He is also a regular visiting faculty at the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehra Dun, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi, Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, Indian School of Petroleum and Energy, New Delhi and Indian School of Business, Mohali.
Mr. George is fluent in English, Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi besides having working knowledge of Spanish and Telugu. He has visited 47 countries and resided in various parts of India, Sri Lanka, UK, USA and the Philippines during the course of his life. A keen amateur pianist and private pilot, he is also a skilled debater.
